\nThe troubled political situation in the Maldives is scaring away tourists. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Hundreds of hotel rooms are booked every day and several countries have issued warnings against travel to the sun paradise.<\/p>\n

Sun, white beaches and luxurious hotels. Anyone who has visited the Maldives knows that it is a paradise on earth.<\/p>\n

The island nation thrives largely on its tourism, attracting celebrities, honeymooners and ordinary travelers alike. However, recent unrest in the country has scared away many visitors.
\nOn February 5, the authorities declared a state of emergency as the conflict between President Abdulla Yameen and the opposition gained new momentum. The president defied a court order, leading to riots in the capital, Mal\u00e9, and the military was deployed to the streets.<\/p>\n

This has led to several countries issuing travel warnings to the country, including the UK, China, India and the US. The consequence is that hundreds of hotel rooms are being booked out every day, Reuters reports.
\n\u201cWe have had 50 to 60 room cancellations every day and the number has been the same since we started,\u201d a spokesperson for Paradise Island Resort-Villa Group told Reuters.<\/p>\n

The hotel has a 282-room resort outside the capital Mal\u00e9.<\/p>\n

The islands are safe<\/strong>
\nSwedish travel companies continue to fly tourists from Sweden to the popular tourist nation and will not cancel trips until the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against it for safety reasons, reports TT.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' travel advice applies to travelers to the capital, Mal\u00e9, and requires visitors to follow local news broadcasts and government recommendations closely. They should also avoid demonstrations and crowds. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also assures travelers that there is no information that the international airport or tourist islands are affected by the demonstrations.<\/p>\n
