On the 2,540-meter-high Weissfluhjoch, more than a centimeter of snow never fell between May and September \u2013 the mountain peak has not had so little precipitation in 81 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only did large quantities of winter snow melt away, but also ice,\u201d says Huss.<\/p>\n<p>He warns that several of the country&#039;s smaller glaciers will disappear completely if global warming continues at the same rate.<\/p>\n<p>If winter hadn&#039;t contributed so much snow, 2018 would have broken all records.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 2003 remains the worst year for glaciers, but 2018 is clearly among the top ten of the last century \u2013 and among the top three for some glaciers.<\/p>\n<p>Source: TT<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Den globala uppv\u00e4rmningen f\u00e5r ocks\u00e5 glaci\u00e4rerna i Alperna att sm\u00e4lta.
