{"id":232694,"date":"2018-11-20T07:02:48","date_gmt":"2018-11-20T06:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.travelreport.se\/?p=232694"},"modified":"2024-02-02T12:57:44","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T12:57:44","slug":"flooding-continues-in-venice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.travelreport.se\/en\/oversvamningarna-fortsatter-i-venedig\/","title":{"rendered":"Flooding continues in Venice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In Italy, authorities are warning of severe weather in seven regions. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And in Venice in northern Italy, high water levels are expected again today, something that is happening more and more often in the city that is built on a lagoon.<\/p>\n<p>During the morning today, water levels in Venice are expected to rise again, to one meter and 25 centimeters above normal.<\/p>\n<p>So it&#039;s not quite as high as on October 29th when the water level was one meter and 56 centimeters. Such a high level has only been measured four times since measurements began in 1923.<\/p>\n<p>On October 29 and 30, authorities were forced to close off St. Mark&#039;s Square, where the high water levels are usually most noticeable. The floor of St. Mark&#039;s Basilica was also filled with water. Schools were closed on those days and the mayor urged people to stay home.<\/p>\n<p>High water levels are a natural phenomenon, but floods are occurring more and more frequently here in Venice and climate change is accelerating the fact that Venice is slowly sinking.<\/p>\n<p>But other parts of Europe are also experiencing unusual weather. Snow is expected in parts of France today. The Mediterranean region has been hit hard by extreme weather this autumn, with several deaths in Mallorca and Sicily, among others.<\/p>\n<p>A conference is starting in Rome these days where representatives from 56 countries will discuss how Europe can better prepare for natural disasters and extreme weather.<\/p>\n<p>Source: sverigesradio.se<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I Italien varnar myndigheterna f\u00f6r besv\u00e4rligt v\u00e4der i sju regioner.
