A state of emergency has been declared in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The storm swept through the Halkidiki region, a relatively popular tourist destination near Thessaloniki, on Wednesday evening. Strong winds that uprooted trees, along with rain and hail, have forced residents in the area to seek shelter, reports&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-greece-weather\/six-foreign-nationals-killed-as-severe-weather-hits-greece-idUSKCN1U52Q3\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several people have been reported dead and around a hundred injured, Reuters reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Czech couple died when their caravan was blown away and a Russian man and his son died when they were trapped under a falling tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Romanian woman and boy were killed when the roof of a restaurant collapsed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On social media, people are reporting power outages and pictures show hail, lightning, and objects broken in the strong winds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 This is the first time in my 25-year career that I have experienced something like this, Athansios Kaltsas told Open TV, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is the head of the Nea Moudania health center, which has received 60-70 patients after the storm, most with fractures.
