Destination Gotland's agreement to operate boat traffic to and from the island is valid until 2027. Now the Swedish Transport Administration has been assigned to investigate how ferry traffic between Gotland and the mainland should be operated thereafter and whether it should possibly be state-owned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Traffic to Gotland should be good, accessible and climate-smart. This is the view of the government, which has now commissioned the Swedish Transport Administration to analyze different models for future ferry traffic to and from Gotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201d"It is important that we develop the best possible basis so that we get better frequency, cope with tough climate requirements and provide good service, not least to the people of Gotland," says Minister of Infrastructure Tomas Eneroth to TT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Swedish Transport Administration has already developed various possible solutions, one of which is a state-owned operation of the ferry service. Tomas Eneroth believes that they want to investigate whether this could be an effective way to get the most value for the 550 million per year that ferry service costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201d"The most important thing is that we are tough in our requirements so that there is the best possible accessibility for the people of Gotland at reasonable prices. At the same time, we want traffic that meets climate requirements," he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another part of the assignment to the Swedish Transport Administration is to analyze the effects that the different alternatives have on the work of achieving fossil-free Gotland traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The current agreement period between the Swedish Transport Administration and Destination Gotland expires in 2027, but the Swedish Transport Administration has already developed various alternatives for how and who will manage traffic thereafter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
