Photographer: Erland Andersson, Bilder i Syd<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>On December 1 this year, Malm\u00f6 Airport turns 50, and this will be celebrated through various activities at the airport and in Swedavia&#039;s channels throughout the year. By highlighting the airport as an international meeting place and communications hub for half a century, Malm\u00f6 Airport&#039;s important role and the developments, not least in the climate transition, that have taken place to strengthen accessibility to Sk\u00e5ne and the \u00d6resund region are also highlighted.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013 After more than two years of pandemic, it is of course very gratifying to have the opportunity to draw attention to Malm\u00f6 Airport&#039;s role and importance for southern Sweden as well as the development journey that the airport has made as an international and climate-smart meeting place during the first fifty years. Now our important mission continues with a strong focus on strengthening accessibility to the region and the rest of the world while we continue to drive the industry&#039;s transition to fossil-free aviation. In order to meet more travelers this summer and beyond after several years of pandemic, major recruitment efforts are underway by us and our partners at the airport, says Karin \u00d6hrstr\u00f6m, Airport Manager Malm\u00f6 Airport at Swedavia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The celebration of the airport&#039;s first fifty years will take place throughout the year, starting in May, and will benefit travelers and other visitors through exhibitions at the airport and via Swedavia&#039;s social media. With historical photos and interviews with current and former employees, visitors will get a look back at milestones and highlights with a focus on the airport&#039;s development and importance to the region. The historical look back will be interspersed with the airport&#039;s vision for the future of sustainable air travel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Short facts:<\/strong><br \/>\u2013 The first airplane landed at Malm\u00f6 Airport in 1972.&nbsp;<br \/>\u2013 Since the opening, over 60 million travelers have passed through the airport on their way to work, vacation or the great adventure of their lives.&nbsp;<br \/>\u2013 Over the years, Malm\u00f6 Airport has developed to meet the needs of future travelers with expansions of terminals, parking lots, hangars, car parks and runways for airplanes and helicopters.&nbsp;<br \/>\u2013 The airport&#039;s development has contributed to the airport today being an important connection link in the \u00d6resund region with equal parts international and national traffic.&nbsp;<br \/>\u2013 Together with other airports in Swedavia, Malm\u00f6 Airport is the first in the world with zero fossil carbon dioxide emissions in its own operations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Den 1 december i \u00e5r fyller Malm\u00f6 Airport 50 \u00e5r och det kommer att uppm\u00e4rksammas genom olika aktiviteter p\u00e5 flygplatsen och i Swedavias kanaler under \u00e5ret.
