Europe and Asia top the list when the world's major cities are ranked based on how well they are mobile. Sweden is praised, but Hong Kong dominates in most categories.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a new report produced by management consultant Oliver Wyman together with the Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, 60 major cities have been ranked based on a variety of factors, such as how well developed the cities' public and private mobility networks are and how they have adopted new technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But first, the backbone of mobility: public transport. Here, Hong Kong comes in at the top, followed by Zurich, Stockholm, Singapore and Helsinki. The ranking is based on factors such as proximity, price and speed, to name a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Andreas Nienhaus, partner at Oliver Wyman, cities like Hong Kong have boosted their public transport by making it less attractive to use individual mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201dThey either have big green zones or big car-free zones, or have simply made it very expensive to drive private vehicles in the cities. And that helps,\u201d he tells Bloomberg's Citylab. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The worst when it comes to public transport are cities in the Middle East and Africa, with Johannesburg, Riyadh, Nairobi and Jeddah ranking at the bottom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When it comes to sustainability, Oslo, Helsinki and Stockholm rank at the top. Like Hong Kong, Oslo has car-free zones, and the Norwegian capital has also invested heavily in expanding charging facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
