To ensure a seamless journey, Vy has introduced daily connecting bus transfers. For travellers, this means that bookings are made as usual on Vy.se to the place they intend to go. The local transport company Kiruna Buss also offers an alternative solution with a daily bus between Kiruna and Narvik.

”The season for Kiruna's mountain world is in full swing and it is important that travelers can book a ticket and get to their final destination in a smooth way. We therefore appreciate the transport companies' commitment to developing solutions for travelers. It is important to have functioning transport that connects us with Narvik for travelers who need to continue their journey,” says Peter Salomonsson, CEO of Kiruna Lappland. ”It is important that transport and infrastructure between Kiruna and Narvik are maintained for both locals and visitors. We are also in the middle of the peak season for skiing and winter tourism, which is a very important season for the tourism industry. It is therefore very pleasing that passenger transport between Narvik and Kiruna is maintained with a good backup solution until passenger traffic by train is back in place,” adds June Berg-Sollund, CEO of Visit Narvik.

Background:

The decision not to start passenger traffic/night train on the route between Abisko-Narvik has been taken due to safety reasons as the risk of subsequent derailments and downtime is assessed as high. Risk of personal injury and difficulties in the event of the need to evacuate passengers are the underlying reasons.
