Economically troubled Sri Lanka may be on the path to recovery, largely thanks to tourists finding their way back to the country again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the last quarter, GDP growth rose by 4.5 percent compared to the catastrophic figure of minus 12.4 percent in the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is after the number of foreign visitors doubled in December compared to the previous year when visitor numbers stood at 91,900. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sri Lanka's precarious situation led to a request for, and receipt of, a $2.9 billion bailout package from the International Monetary Fund almost exactly a year ago. President Ranil Wickremesinghe has since, among other things, significantly raised taxes in order to assist the national treasury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
