And happily, more and more people are choosing the train. SJ was able to release tickets with better advance notice as the Swedish Transport Administration&#039;s planning process improved. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cancelled departures at the end of the year<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Departures were cancelled in December due to a shortage of vehicles. The reasons were partly snow and cold, and partly that parts of the X 2000 fleet needed to undergo an inspection as an extra safety measure after an X 2000 train suffered serious wheel damage. In order to be better equipped for the coming winters, SJ has several short- and long-term measures underway. The most important is to increase maintenance capacity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"949\" height=\"591\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelreport.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/SJ-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-295796\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travelreport.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/SJ-3.jpg 949w, https:\/\/www.travelreport.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/SJ-3-600x374.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.travelreport.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/SJ-3-768x478.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 949px) 100vw, 949px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Damaged embankment led to derailment<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An SJ train derailed on the Iggesund-Hudiksvall route after the embankment was severely damaged due to heavy rainfall during storm Hans. The derailment caused damage to infrastructure and vehicles, and a few passengers were slightly injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SJ took over commuter train services in the Stockholm area in March 2024 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In November 2023, the Stockholm Transport Administration signed an agreement with SJ AB to take over commuter train services in the Stockholm area on March 3, 2024. At the end of the year, intensive work was underway at SJ with preparations for the takeover. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Several new agreements within procured traffic<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> SJ G\u00f6talandst\u00e5g and V\u00e4sttrafik agreed on an additional option year, which means that SJ is responsible for operating the V\u00e4stt\u00e5gen until December 2027. SJ AB signed an agreement regarding the Kr\u00f6sat\u00e5gen, which means that SJ is responsible for the traffic until December 2033. SJ has operated the Kr\u00f6sat\u00e5gen on an interim agreement since December 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Financing the new high-speed trains <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SJ AB signed an agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) for a loan facility of SEK 1.75 billion to finance the high-speed trains that SJ AB had previously agreed upon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Long-term, strategic goals for SJ <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2023, SJ decided on four long-term, strategic goals for sustainable value creation to be achieved by 2030.
