{"id":296334,"date":"2024-05-02T06:55:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-02T04:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.travelreport.se\/?p=296334"},"modified":"2024-05-02T06:32:11","modified_gmt":"2024-05-02T04:32:11","slug":"airline-banned-by-eu-for-greenwashing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.travelreport.se\/en\/flygbolag-far-baklaxa-av-eu-for-gronmalning\/","title":{"rendered":"Airlines reprimanded by the EU over greenwashing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">European airlines are using misleading claims to make flying seem less problematic for the climate, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_24_2322\">EU Consumer Network CPC<\/a>\u00a0who want to see action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year, members of the European consumer organisation BEUC reported 17 airlines, including SAS, for \u201dgreenwashing\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CPC has expanded its review to 20 airlines, where it has identified potentially misleading claims. These include false impressions of the effects of climate offsetting, unverified net-zero targets, and the liberal use of terms such as \u201dsustainable,\u201d \u201dresponsible,\u201d and other implicitly green claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Travellers \u201ddeserve accurate and scientific answers, not vague or false claims\u201d, says EU Values and Transparency Commissioner Vera Jourov\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Companies are urged to ensure within 30 days that their marketing does not contravene EU consumer legislation. Otherwise, the CPC may take action, including sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201dAviation is one of the industries with the largest emissions. It is therefore particularly serious that airlines are engaging in greenwashing.
