Str\u00f6mma Turism & Sj\u00f6fart is presenting its first electrically powered sightseeing boat, which will begin operating on Stockholm's waters on 16 June. The electric boat will be Str\u00f6mma's first in Sweden to be put into regular tourist traffic and represents an important step in the company's ambition to lead the way towards a sustainable tourism industry in Stockholm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a naming ceremony at Skeppsholmen on June 11th, with Finance Commissioner Karin Wanng\u00e5rd present, the boat received its new name, Prins Daniel. The boat is a converted, formerly fossil-fuelled, sightseeing boat from 1985, which has now undergone extensive rebuilding and electrification at Rind\u00f6varvet outside Vaxholm in the Stockholm archipelago. The electronics company Metz is responsible for the entire electrical design and installation of the new engine. With capacity for up to 148 passengers, the boat will be a significant symbol of Str\u00f6mma's sustainability efforts and commitment to electrifying its entire fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 This is an important step in the company's development and confirms our ambitions to be flag-bearers within the future tourism industry, where sustainability is highly prioritised. The transition involves significant costs for both vehicles and new infrastructure that we must bear ourselves. But we have ambitious goals, and as early as 2026, we will put the next electric boat into service, says Peter Henricson, Head of Stromma Sweden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Str\u00f6mma is one of Northern Europe's leading sightseeing companies, operating in several countries. In the Netherlands, 25 of Str\u00f6mma's total 48 boats are already powered by clean energy, with the aim of all boats there being electric by 2025. In Denmark, two electric boats are currently in operation, with more conversions planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prince Daniel will be serving a brand new route to Ulriksdal Palace and will initially run for four Saturdays during the summer with a guide present. In addition to its regular \"Under the Bridges of Stockholm\" tour, which is 2 hours and 15 minutes long and departs from Str\u00f6mkajen.
