During Almedalen Week, Norwegian will increase the blend of fossil-free aviation fuel by the equivalent of 40% for flights between Stockholm Arlanda and Visby.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Geir Karlsen will, among other things, participate in an event where he, together with the CEO of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Andreas Hatzigeorgiou, and Strawberry&#039;s CEO, Petter Stordalen, will discuss the attractiveness and accessibility of the Nordic region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is possible to combine increased accessibility with the transformation of aviation. Fossil-free aviation fuel is the fastest and most effective way to reduce emissions because it works on today&#039;s modern aircraft and in today&#039;s infrastructure. The challenge is that far too little is produced, which means that the production of fossil-free fuels needs to increase sharply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013I look forward to coming to Visby and discussing the development towards fossil-free and competitive aviation. The EU directive ReFuelEU Aviation is very welcome and will be a fair instrument for airlines to relate to. But it means that national instruments such as the reduction obligation and the aviation tax should be removed. Different instruments in different countries distort competition and impair accessibility, without contributing to reducing emissions, says Norwegian&#039;s CEO Geir Karlsen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ReFuelEU Aviation means that from 2025 onwards, requirements will be introduced for a gradually increased mix of fossil-free fuels for aviation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Norwegian&#039;s goal is to reduce emissions by 45 percent by 2030. To achieve this, the company is focusing on three areas; more efficient flights, modern and fuel-efficient aircraft and fossil-free fuels. During Almedalen Week, Norwegian is increasing the blend of fossil-free aviation fuel by the equivalent of 40% for flights between Stockholm Arlanda and Visby. The high blend reduces emissions from these flights by up to 30 percent compared to fossil jet fuel alone and shows how effectively emissions can be reduced with fossil-free fuel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2013With the right incentives and conditions, airlines, together with politics and the business community, can both manage the transition in aviation and increase accessibility in Sweden. The fact that both Preem and St1 are now investing in producing renewable aviation fuel locally is very positive and important progress towards fossil-free aviation, continues Geir Karlsen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Panel discussion on the theme &quot;Flight, sustainable accessibility and competitiveness&quot;\u201d<br><\/strong>The transport company Flyg is arranging a seminar on how accessibility can be increased while the work on the transition is in full swing.
