In October, the Stockholm Archipelago Trail will be inaugurated, a new hiking trail that will enable hiking and archipelago enthusiasts to discover the Stockholm archipelago in a whole new way.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just a couple of hours from Nybrokajen lies the Stockholm archipelago with over 30,000 islands, known for its rich cultural heritage and unique and varied nature. Now you have the chance to explore this idyll on foot. In October, the Stockholm Archipelago Trail opens, a 270 km long hiking trail in the Stockholm outer archipelago that stretches from Arholma in the north to Landsort in the south.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The trail passes through 21 islands and is divided into 20 stages. You can choose to hike one stage\/day or experience the entire route in two weeks. Choose between camping at sites along the trail, or staying at some of the charming hotels and inns the archipelago offers. Many believe that the archipelago shows its best side during the magical season between summer and autumn. The water stays warm about 14 days longer than on the mainland, the sun is warm and the calm has settled in after the most intense holiday weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of the trail's highlights:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2013 Sandhamn<\/strong>: A historic place in the outermost part of the Stockholm archipelago. With its special location, the island is a paradise with barren cliffs and white beaches. During the summer the harbor is bustling with life, but if you walk SAT, extensive beach promenades and windswept pine forests await you. Today, about 108 permanent residents live in Sandhamn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2013 Uto<\/strong>: One of the largest islands in the southern part of the Stockholm archipelago. The island has a rich history and has served as a base for pilots, customs officers and soldiers since the 17th century. Iron ore mining reached its peak between 1750-1850. Today, 175 people are registered here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2013 \u00c5lo<\/strong>: An island in the southern part of the archipelago with Ut\u00f6 to the east. \u00c5l\u00f6 is known for its rich plant and bird life and has been a nature reserve since 2008. Only two households live on the island, making it a very wild part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2013 N\u00e5ttaro<\/strong>: N\u00e5ttar\u00f6 is a nature reserve that attracts visitors from all over the world with its fantastic beaches and varied nature. Storsand in the east is one of the archipelago's longest sandy beaches with large sand dunes. No permanent residents live on this wild part of the trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The North-South boat line takes you along the Stockholm Archipelago Trail (SAT) in the summer and you can stay overnight on each section. To make it easy to get out into the outer archipelago, there are also \u201dStockholm Archipelago Trail heads\u201d with west-east transport.
