Indonesia has decided on a moratorium (temporary halt) on the construction of hotels, villas, and nightclubs in certain areas of the tourist-heavy island of Bali, an official told Reuters news agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It's part of the government's attempt to tackle the consequences of mass tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The schedule, however, is unclear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tourism has recovered in Bali following the pandemic, but there is growing concern about the strain visitors are placing on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In February, a tourist tax was introduced, and the authorities hope to build a railway line between the airport and popular tourist destinations to reduce the pressure on the roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
