Egypt is now free of malaria, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced, describing the fight to eradicate the disease in the country as \u201da century-long effort\u201d and an end to a disease that has existed since \u201dtime immemorial.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHO considers a country to be malaria-free if it demonstrates that domestic cases of the disease have been stopped for three consecutive years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, malaria caused more than 600,000 deaths worldwide, 95 percent of them in Africa, according to the WHO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
