Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg has admitted that the aircraft manufacturer has serious problems with its corporate culture and cannot afford to make another mistake, according to a recording of a meeting with employees obtained by the Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Workers have previously described a management culture that dismisses quality and safety issues and pushes production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201dWe spend more time arguing with each other than thinking about how to be better than Airbus,\u201d Kelly Ortberg said at a meeting with employees.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boeing recently issued $24 billion in shares to bolster its cash flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CEO is warning that some research and development may be delayed, the business newspaper writes. Ortberg also stated that the aircraft manufacturer will not return to positive cash flow until they increase production of 737s to the target of 38 per month that they originally aimed to reach by the end of 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CEO admitted that the company lacks money to launch a new aircraft program but that they do not immediately need one.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boeing recently suffered an eight-week strike by its machinists, which brought production at key factories to a halt, and the company has laid off thousands of employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ortberg also stated, among other things, that the company will review employee incentive programs to become more effective and more uniform throughout the company. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In January, Boeing received negative attention when a door panel blew off a 737. The company's Starliner space capsule also recently stranded two astronauts.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
