The holiday paradise of Bali has had enough of rowdy tourists. Several tough rules are now being introduced to combat the problems. If tourists break the rules, there could be legal consequences, according to Bali's governor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A year and a half ago, new guidelines were established for foreign tourists visiting the island. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the measures to manage tourism on Bali<\/a> in Indonesia, has not been enough. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now Bali's governor, Wayan Koster, has announced that enough has been enough - and that the existing rules are being tightened. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs things change, we must adapt. This ensures that Bali\u2019s tourism remains respectful, sustainable and in tune with our local values,\u201d said Wayan Koster in a statement on the local government\u2019s website. Website<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mandatory tourist tax<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Here are some of the new rules that all foreign visitors must follow: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Sacred sites and symbols must be respected. This applies to temples, religious statues and other sacred places. Balinese customs, traditions and cultural expressions should also be respected, especially during ceremonies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Tourists must dress respectfully when visiting temples. In public places, modest and respectful attire should be worn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Tourists should show \u201dconsideration and behave respectfully\u201d at religious sites, restaurants and shops. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 A mandatory tourist tax must be paid before or during the stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Anyone driving in Bali must follow the traffic rules \u2013 this includes wearing a helmet and having a valid international driving license. Drivers are not allowed to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A series of prohibitions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the government has set several clear rules - which tourists are "NOT" allowed to do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The use of single-use plastic is completely prohibited. This applies to plastic bags, Styrofoam and plastic packaging. Littering or polluting the environment is also prohibited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climbing sacred trees or monuments is also strictly prohibited. Taking nude or inappropriate photos at religious sites is also prohibited. Entering sacred temple areas without traditional Balinese clothing is prohibited. Menstruating women are also prohibited from entering. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dWill strictly enforce the rules\u201d<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It is strictly forbidden for tourists to behave aggressively or disrespectfully, including swearing, disrupting the public, or being rude to locals, authorities, or other tourists. This also includes hateful posts or misinformation on social media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Governor Wayan Koster, the rules will be strictly enforced. Legal sanctions under Indonesian law may be imposed for violations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 Bali is a beautiful and sacred island, and we expect our guests to show the same respect that we give them, says Governor Koster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
