However, the new EU rules only apply to airports with special scanners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For now, travelers at Arlanda, Landvetter and Kastrup are allowed to continue packing in small containers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For many travelers, it will probably be welcome news to not have to pack small 100 milliliter containers with a maximum of 1 liter in total. The updated rules allow larger containers \u2013 up to 2 liters \u2013 in hand luggage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the rules will be introduced gradually across Europe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&quot;This does not mean that all passengers everywhere in the EU can now take larger liquid containers with them,&quot; European Commission spokeswoman Anna-Kaisa Itkonen told reporters in Brussels on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New security check<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In recent years, several airports have installed new X-ray equipment in security checks that allows larger quantities of liquids to be taken with them, for example:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressen.se\/tagg\/location\/arlanda\/\" class=\"\">Arlanda<\/a>&nbsp;new X-ray equipment at Terminal 5. But the EU approval so far only applies to a certain type of scanner from a British supplier, which is not available at Arlanda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So for the time being, Arlanda is not affected by the changed rules, nor is Landvetter covered.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Kastrup in Copenhagen, installation of new approved equipment is underway, but it is not expected to be completed until the end of May next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The change in rules therefore creates confusion for those who are going to fly, and the rules may also be different on the outbound and return journeys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mazy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201d&quot;It is up to each airport to inform about the new rules and about the possibility for passengers to bring larger containers on board. Hopefully they will clarify for everyone who will be traveling from the airport whether they are using the new technology,&quot; writes Anna-Kaisa Itkonen to TT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The news site Politico Europe gives an example of the confusion: Anyone flying from Linate airport in Milan can bring two liters of liquid in their hand luggage, as can travelers from Terminal 1 at the city&#039;s other airport, Malpensa. But travelers from Terminal 2 at Malpensa must stick to 100 milliliter containers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) continues to test equipment from suppliers other than the currently approved British Smiths Detection.
