It doesn't have to be a problem to sometimes be a little bored \u2013 on the contrary, it can be good for you. Research shows that boredom, or \u201dBoredom<\/em>\u201d, helping the brain to rest and recover. \u201dYou need to be bored,\u201d argues Harvard professor Arthur C. Brooks.

This insight may feel more relevant than ever. As the year draws to a close and to-do lists grow ever longer, Sweden offers a range of opportunities to disconnect, unwind and do absolutely nothing... or, almost nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research<\/u><\/a> shows that we are increasingly finding it difficult to cope with the large amount and complexity of information that today's world contains. Boredom<\/strong><\/em><\/strong> \u2013 a global trend<\/strong>
However, being bored doesn't necessarily mean doing nothing \u2013 it can be about doing less and at a slower pace. As digital detox retreats and wellness trips become more common, slow travel is also gaining traction, slow travel<\/em>, a larger role within the wellness and travel industries. According to WTM Global Travel Report 2025<\/u><\/a> Nature and well-being-focused trips are also in high demand among today's travellers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Treat yourself to a bit of boredom<\/strong>
Sweden can be the right place for those who want to experience activities that take time and happen at a slower pace. It is one of Europe's most sparsely populated countries with large forests and thousands of lakes that are easily accessible, and where you can find a place just for yourself. Natural darkness, clear air, and deep silence create the perfect environment for rest and reflection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dThere are plenty of things to do in Sweden.\u201d<\/em> says Susanne Andersson, CEO of Visit Sweden. \u201dBut among the best things you can actually do is to come here, embrace the silence \u2013 and just be bored.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
