{"id":302628,"date":"2026-02-13T06:18:01","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T05:18:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.travelreport.se\/?p=302628"},"modified":"2026-02-13T06:18:02","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T05:18:02","slug":"cuba-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.travelreport.se\/en\/kuba-avradan\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuba \u2013 not recommended"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to the serious situation in Cuba, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against non-essential travel to the country. The decision to advise against it was made on February 12, 2026. The advice is valid until further notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Swedes in Cuba are urged to exercise caution and stay updated on developments and follow the advice of local authorities. Swedes are also urged to regularly check travel information from the Swedish Embassy in Havana via the UD Resklar app (including activating push notifications) or Sweden Abroad and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swedenabroad.se\/sv\/svensklistan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sign up for the Swedish list<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Swedes in Cuba may have their travel plans changed at short notice. The Swedish Embassy in Havana therefore urges Swedish tourists to carefully inform themselves about the situation in the country and to stay in touch with their tour operators and airlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Swedish Embassy in Havana is open as usual. If you are in an urgent emergency outside of the embassy&#039;s opening hours, please contact the Swedish Foreign Ministry at +46 8 405 50 05.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Power failure<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are widespread power outages throughout Cuba, especially outside the capital Havana. Even in Havana, the outages have become longer and more frequent than before. They occur irregularly and are difficult to plan for. Internet and telephone lines are functioning poorly, which is also affected by the many power outages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fuel shortage<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are major difficulties in obtaining fuel for vehicles, both gasoline and diesel. This affects all types of transportation, including public transportation, taxis and rental car travel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mosquito-borne viruses<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is currently a high risk of mosquito-borne viruses in Cuba. Mosquitoes carry the risk of transmitting Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika and Oropouchevirus. Travelers should take active measures against mosquito bites, such as:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mosquito repellent (it is difficult to get hold of mosquito repellent in Cuba so this should be brought along)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full-coverage clothing (long sleeves and long pants)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sleep under mosquito nets and in rooms with air conditioning\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close doors and windows<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid being outdoors when mosquitoes are most active (daytime for dengue fever)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The embassy recommends that Swedish citizens follow instructions from local authorities.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">General advice for travelers to Cuba<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Prepare your trip and travel with margins to Cuba<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a traveler, you have your own responsibility to stay informed. If you are going to travel to Cuba, it is important to be well-informed before you travel and to prepare for your trip. Make sure you have a financial buffer so that you can cope with delays and unforeseen expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing in parts of the world and may affect international travel. Countries you will be traveling through may have different entry and behavior regulations due to COVID-19. For example, there may be a requirement to wear a face mask on flights, hotels and public places, or you may need to show proof of vaccination before and during your trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is your passport valid?&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please check carefully that your passport is valid, complete and with a blank page for stamps. The embassy advises that you not only have a valid passport, but that it should be valid for at least 6 months from the date of your arrival in Cuba.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do you have the right insurance?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important to have insurance that is valid for the entire trip and covers planned activities in Cuba. Contact your insurance company and check the terms of your insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swedenabroad.se\/sv\/om-utlandet-f%C3%B6r-svenska-medborgare\/hj%C3%A4lp-till-svenskar-utomlands\/n%C3%B6dsituation-utomlands\/allvarligt-sjuk-eller-skadad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Seriously ill or injured \u2013 Sweden Abroad<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Download the UD Resklar app<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UD Resklar app includes travel information from Swedish embassies abroad by country and their contact details. Through the app, you can also choose to receive push notifications with, for example, information about changes to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs&#039; travel advice or travel information from Swedish embassies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sign up for the Swedish list<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you sign up for the Swedish list, the Swedish Embassy in Havana or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can reach you in a crisis situation if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swedenabroad.se\/sv\/svensklistan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sign up for the Swedish list<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have signed up for the Swedish list but have left the country, we ask you to go in and unsubscribe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stay in touch with your tour operator or airline.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have questions about an upcoming trip or questions about canceling or rebooking tickets, you should contact your tour operator. Your tour operator has a responsibility to you as a traveler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stay in touch with your loved ones&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inform relatives about your travel plans regarding route\/accommodation\/travel companions and how you will be reachable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Emergency contact information in Cuba<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the event of a consular emergency in Cuba, you can contact the Swedish Embassy in Havana or, outside regular opening hours, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs&#039; consular emergency service on tel: 08-405 50 05.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Local laws and customs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a visitor to another country, you should always remember to follow that country&#039;s laws, regulations, and customs. Swedish law does not apply, and the embassy has no way of getting you released if you end up in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Entry and exit regulations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is the traveler&#039;s responsibility to ensure that entry into Cuba is in accordance with the country&#039;s regulations. The Swedish Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are not responsible for other countries&#039; entry regulations or any visa requirements.
