Snow across large parts of the country provides the opportunity for many skiing adventures during the sports holidays. At the same time, congestion in the lift queue and other behaviors can disturb both children and adults, according to a new survey that takes the temperature of what's going on on the ski slopes.

Sweden is a country full of skiers, a third of Swedes (37 percent) ski slalom. Skiing is most popular among younger adults, in the 18–34 age group almost two out of three (63 percent) ski downhill. Among families with children in the household, almost half (46 percent) say they ski slalom. This is shown by a new survey conducted by Novus on behalf of Trygg-Hansa.

This is what bothers Swedes the most on the ski slopes Filming or taking selfies is a minor annoyance, with only 10 percent saying it is disruptive. The survey also shows clear differences between different groups. Women are more bothered than average by children riding unsupervised (44 percent) and by others driving too fast (40 percent). The 18–34 age group ranks children riding unsupervised as the most disruptive behavior.

Many injuries can be avoided with simple routines – Our survey shows that a lack of supervision from parents is something that many people react to on the slopes. A well-visited ski slope during the sports holidays can be compared to a busy road junction and as an adult you must therefore constantly supervise smaller children and their surroundings, says Lisa Halvorsen, personal insurance expert at Trygg-Hansa.

5 tips for skiing with children during the sports holidays

• Prevent frostbite. • Talk about hindsight. • Check the equipment. • Always wear a helmet. • Take breaks. About the survey

Snö över stora delar av landet ger chans till många skidäventyr under sportlovet. Samtidigt kan trängsel i liftkön och andra beteenden störa både barn och vuxna, det visar en ny undersökning som tar tempen på vad som skaver i skidbacken. When Swedes rank what annoys them most about other skiers on the slopes, these behaviors come out on top:

Accidents on the ski slopes are common and children are particularly vulnerable.

Feel the children's fingers, cheeks, nose tips and earlobes when it is cold and windy.

Teach the children the rules: avoid hidden corners, keep your distance and show consideration.

Check your bindings before each season, renting can help.

Helmets reduce the risk of head injuries. Adults should set a good example.

Fatigue increases the risk of accidents, rest regularly during the day.

The survey was conducted by Novus on behalf of Trygg-Hansa during the period 8–14 January. A total of 1,026 interviews were conducted. The survey was conducted via online questionnaires in Novus' randomly recruited Sweden panel, which guarantees representative results. This means that the results are generalizable to the current target population.
