Stureplansgruppen is taking over the old cinema premises in central Stockholm where Svenska Spel's Casino Cosmopol was located for over 20 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new Grand Palladium opens in 2027 as a stage with space for 2,500 spectators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Casino Cosmopol was the last of the four state-owned casinos to be closed down. The casino closed nearly a year ago and, at the end of 2025, Alecta Fastigheter bought the historic building by Kungsbron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alecta took over recently, on March 3rd, so the premises are as the casino left them for Di to visit and inspect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201dThe competition was pretty tough, both for who would buy the property and who would run the business here, says Petter Stordalen, who along with Vimal Kovac is the main owner of Stureplansgruppen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201dWe have high ambitions for Grand Palladium. It will become a completely new cultural venue with concerts, club shows, trade fairs, conferences, galas, perhaps also Christmas dinners.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Petter Stordalen sees synergies with his hotel operations, of which Clarion Sign, Nordic Light and Comfort are all located right next to Palladium on Kungsbron.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201dI have hotels with up to 1,500 rooms within just a few blocks. We can create package deals for hotel guests that include experiences at the Grand Palladium,\u201d he says enthusiastically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Palladium opened in 1918 as Stockholm's largest cinema. In 1929, the cinema was the first in Scandinavia to show sound films. Cinema operations ceased in 1987.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A surprisingly large amount of the American-inspired decor with chandeliers, wood panelling, and decorative paintings has been preserved and will remain so, as the building is green-listed, meaning it has high cultural-historical value.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stureplansgruppen rents three<\/strong> floors with a surface area of 3,532 square metres, including the premises one floor down which was previously the well-known dance hall Bal Palais. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Concerts are not entirely unfamiliar territory for the Stureplans Group. The group previously ran the Summerburst festival, which was sold to the concert promoter Live Nation \u2013 the same company that has, incidentally, purchased and refurbished G\u00f6ta Lejon in S\u00f6dermalm.
