United States of America<\/a>, on Tuesday with New York as the destination. Erin Drozda and her wife were on board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n"We heard a thud and then after the thud we took off anyway. We were up in the air for 10-15 minutes," says Drozda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then the pilot's voice was heard over the speakers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 If anyone heard that thud, we hit a coyote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pilot then announced that the plane was \u201dreturning\u201d to the airport in Providence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 We thought it was a joke at first. We thought: \u201dIs that code for something else, what\u2019s going on?\u201d We didn\u2019t know because you never hear that, says Drozda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201dEverything was okay\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Passengers were allowed to disembark while airport staff checked the plane to see if it had been damaged in the collision with the coyote. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe got off the plane. After about that time they said everything was okay and we could go back on board,\u201d says Drozda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The plane landed in New York two hours later than scheduled. An airline spokesperson said the plane returned to the airport \u201das a precaution following a report of contact between the aircraft\u2019s landing gear and wildlife on the runway during takeoff.\u201d The incident did not affect any other flights and no one was injured \u2014 except for the coyote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
