The EU Commission wants to change the limit for which airports can receive state aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a proposal for new guidelines, it is suggested that airports with more than one million passengers per year should no longer be eligible for operating support. Investment support, in turn, will only be available to airports with fewer than three million passengers, instead of five million as is currently the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even airports with between 500,000 and one million passengers per year are actually considered capable of managing without operational support, but are nevertheless proposed to be able to receive continued support during a transitional period of five years. Airports smaller than that, on the other hand, shall generally be considered eligible for state aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Commission is now seeking feedback on the proposed guidelines by 11 June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
