The peak travel season is well underway, and Friday, June 26th marks the start of the school holidays. This means more passengers at Copenhagen Airport over the coming weeks. During the summer, 10 million passengers will travel through the terminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For many, the holiday season is just around the corner. Sun and summer await, and the terminals at Copenhagen Airport are already buzzing with extra activity and travel excitement. \u201dWe can clearly feel that summer has begun. There are many travellers in the terminals from early morning, as the first charter flights take off towards the sun in Southern Europe. During June, July and August, we expect as many as 10 million passengers to pass through the airport, which is 400,000 more than last summer. We are well prepared and look forward to welcoming the many travellers,\u201d says Peter Krogsgaard, commercial director at Copenhagen Airport. The vast majority of passengers at Copenhagen Airport are international passengers. Roughly one in three passengers at the airport are Danes, while Swedish travellers make up 14 per cent, and the rest are other nationalities such as Americans, Britons, Germans and Norwegians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The summer holidays truly begin on Friday 26 June, and during the coming weeks, more than 100,000 passengers will travel via Copenhagen every day. \u201dIt's one of the big travel days when schools\u201d summer holidays start. In summary, June is one of the major travel months, and on the vast majority of days, there are already over 100,000 guests at the airport. Therefore, there will also be periods of waiting times, so it's important to have a little extra patience with the good Christmas spirit,\" says Peter Krogsgaard.
\u00a0According to forecasts, Sunday 19 July will be the biggest travel day of the summer with 124,000 passengers, which will be the highest number of passengers on a single day in the airport's history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sun and summer in southern Europe are popular, with Spain being the clear favourite country, followed by Italy, France, Greece, and Turkey. \u201dSpain is a sure summer favourite for many Danes, and most travel to sunny Malaga, Barcelona, and Mallorca. This summer, there are 175 different destinations on the route map from Copenhagen, so there are many opportunities to explore the world,\u201d says Peter Krogsgaard. Denmark and Copenhagen are also popular travel destinations for many tourists. 37 percent of all passengers at the airport are international travellers from outside the Nordic region arriving in Copenhagen as tourists or visitors during the three summer months. \u201dIn recent years, more and more travellers from southern Europe have discovered Denmark. It's both Italian, Spanish, and French tourists looking north and at our more pleasant climate. Denmark is an attractive holiday country and a safe destination. Many also highlight the beautiful nature, the exciting food scene, and our Nordic coolness,\u201d says Peter Krogsgaard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the busiest days, there can be longer waiting times at security and passport control, which you must go through if you are travelling outside of Schengen, for example to the UK, Turkey or the USA.
\u00a0\u201dWe do everything we can to make your journey through the airport as smooth as possible, so you get off to a good start to your trip. We have extra staff on duty to guide passengers and can help with most things. I recommend that you follow your flight in our app, so you are always updated on all the practical aspects of your journey through the airport \u2013 including any waiting times at passport and security checks,\u201d says Peter Krogsgaard.
\u00a0To allow plenty of time, Copenhagen Airport recommends arriving two hours before departure for European destinations within the Schengen Area, and three hours before if you are travelling outside of Europe.
