Investment in the global travel and tourism industry surpassed $1 trillion in 2025 \u2013 the highest level since before the pandemic, according to a new report from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). Economic Impact Research: Global Trends Report<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the report, investments increased by 8.5 percent compared to the previous year. At the same time, the travel and tourism sector contributed a record $11.6 trillion to global GDP, meaning the industry grew faster than the global economy as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United States, China, India and Saudi Arabia together accounted for almost half of the world's investment in travel and tourism, equivalent to nearly $500 billion. All countries continue to invest in infrastructure, destination development and investments to strengthen their competitiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, China is expected to have an investment portfolio of $402 billion by 2036, while Saudi Arabia continues to expand through its Vision 2030 program. In the United States, major international events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics are expected to contribute to continued growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe message from the report is clear: investment and growth go hand in hand. Destinations that invest in tourism today for the long term create future jobs, visitor revenue and economic opportunities,\u201d says Gloria Guevara, President and CEO of WTTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spain is highlighted as a role model<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

WTTC points to Spain as one of Europe's leading examples of how long-term investments can strengthen the hospitality industry. Tourism currently accounts for 15.3 percent of the country's GDP, generates $130 billion in international tourism spending and employs one in seven workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behind this development are investments of 3.4 billion euros from the EU Recovery Fund, investments in sustainability and digitalization, and the national strategy Spain Tourism Strategy 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
