More and more people are using a body part to log into their technological gadgets.
And the trend of using fingerprint or facial recognition is expected to increase.
Every other person in PC for All magazine's annual password survey uses a body part to log into their tech gadgets. Of the 5,000 people who responded, nearly half use some form of so-called biometric login – unlocking their phone, computer or other tech gadget using, for example, their fingerprint or face.
And although the figure is probably higher for the newspaper's readers than for the country as a whole, it is a trend that will continue to increase as more phone and computer manufacturers introduce biometric login options, according to the newspaper.
But these login methods do not necessarily need to be more secure, believes Anders Wollner, editor of the technology magazine.
”Still, significantly more is needed for us to feel completely safe.”
The classic password login method is losing ground in this year's survey, coming in second place with 20 percent of respondents saying it's their preferred method. The winner, with a third of the votes, is fingerprint login, according to the survey. However, other biometric methods, such as logging in with your face, eyes or voice, are not as common.
”"Most users seem to want it to be as simple as possible, and preferably not to have to think about security at all," says Anders Wollner, editor at PC for all.
