A powerful storm has moved in over the Canary Islands. The Spanish meteorological agency Aemet has issued yellow and orange warnings for Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, among others.

The storm is expected to reach its peak on Wednesday with wind speeds of 25 metres per second on the island of La Palma.

Last Saturday, a 12-year-old boy who was swept out to sea near a cave in Tenerife was rescued. However, the sea rescue has not yet found the adult who was with the boy.

The alarm centre urges people on the islands to be very careful if they go down to the beach, writes Canarian Weekly.
