Snow stops flights at Arlanda

Remove

Heavy snow has caused disruption to Arlanda's air traffic, which has been affected by delays and cancellations.

”"A lot of snow has fallen at Arlanda this morning. It is heavy snow that is turning into rain. Because the snow is so heavy, it will be difficult to shovel away," says Åsa Öhman, press officer at Swedavia, to Aftonbladet.

During the morning, only one runway could be used.

Rain and sleet also mean that road conditions are slippery in many places around the country. The milder temperatures are causing problems on the roads.

”"Now there is mild air pushing behind the precipitation, which is why we are getting more elements of wet snow and rain. Even though the air temperature is finding its way above zero, it will take a little longer for the road surfaces to rise, so it is rain that can fall on cold road surfaces here during the morning."”

In Stockholm and Uppsala, the weather has caused problems for rail traffic.

”The commuter trains are having difficulty getting through and the snow is weighing down the barriers,” says Britta Lundqvist, press communicator at the Swedish Transport Administration.

The Swedish Transport Administration recommends that travelers who are going out on the road stay updated.

”"Try to check the situation continuously, it can change quickly when the temperature shifts between plus and minus degrees."”
