SMHI warns of snowfall along the west coast and in Jönköping County.

Locally, almost a decimeter of snow fell on Monday. Several traffic accidents have been reported.

On Monday, SMHI issued a class 1 warning due to snowfall. The warning applies to Jönköping County, Halland County and most of Västra Götaland County.

As expected, the snowfall has moved south during the day, but it is not moving quickly.

– It can probably be experienced as a slow shift and it has varied in intensity, says Sofia Söderberg, meteorologist on duty at SMHI, to TT.

Several traffic accidents have been reported in the slippery road conditions. For example, a bus and a truck collided near Gunntorp in Ale municipality in the morning. And near Tranemo, four trucks ended up in a ditch in the afternoon after a collision with a passenger car on the slippery road. Near Öggestorp on national road 40, a car and a truck collided in an overtaking accident.

– The roads are very slippery, says rescue leader Christer Sjöstedt at the rescue services in Jönköping municipality.

The preliminary forecast from SMHI on Monday afternoon is that as much snow as expected has fallen in the warning areas during the day. Locally, up to ten centimeters of snow have fallen. The flakes will continue to fall for a couple of hours and during the evening and night towards Tuesday the snowfall will then subside.

This week, no more snow is expected in southern Sweden, but instead more high-pressure weather, says Sofia Söderberg.

– It can actually get quite cold at night.

Daytime temperatures will continue to be around zero degrees this week in the southwestern parts of the country.
