Avalanches in the French Alps have claimed two more lives this weekend.

Over the past three days, a total of eight people have died in avalanche accidents in the country, and one is missing.

A Belgian was found dead in an avalanche on Sunday after skiing off-piste in the Vallorcine ski resort in southeastern France, and another skier in the same area died in hospital after being dug out of the snow.

Just an hour earlier, a Swiss hiker was swept away by an avalanche in Samoëns, near the Swiss border. The search was called off due to bad weather.
Since the ski season began in November, 16 people in France have lost their lives in avalanches and eleven have been injured.
