Police release 10,000 new passports

This spring's transition from a drop-in system to appointment-based passport applications in Western Sweden has been problematic.

Anyone who has booked an appointment for a new passport may have had to wait for several months, and those passport offices that still have drop-in systems have had waiting times of several hours.

On Friday, the police in Region West announced that the authority is releasing 10,000 new bookable patrol times in Gothenburg, Halland and Älvsborg.

Commissioner Jan Schütt says in a press release that the police are appealing to those who do not need to renew their passport until the fall to wait to make an appointment to renew their passport. This way, those who need a passport this summer can be prioritized.

Bo Rothstein, professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg, has previously filed a complaint with the Swedish Ombudsman against the police for the long waiting times.
