The warmest day of the year in Gothenburg

Remove

With temperatures approaching 29 degrees, Gothenburg residents experienced the warmest day of the year so far.

But for the heat lover, the joy is short-lived, as during the night a rainy weather will move in over Western Sweden and cause the temperature to drop.

Oskarshamn, which has led the heat league since April with 27.2 degrees, was defeated on Thursday when Gothenburg grabbed the "walking trophy for the warmest day of the year". With its 28.8 degrees, the city reached the country's highest recorded temperature so far this year. In a good second place came Kärna in Bohuslän with 26.9 degrees for the day.

But after three days of high summer heat, cooler air is now moving in over western Sweden, where temperatures could drop by just over ten degrees over the weekend. During the night towards Friday, a rainy weather will move in from the west and then move further north via the inland.

– We are getting a front from the west with rain and there may also be thunderstorms. However, in the eastern regions, tomorrow looks to be decent, says Lars Knutsson, meteorologist at SMHI.

After rain comes sunshine
Locally, there may be large amounts of precipitation in connection with the thunderstorm. But after rain comes sunshine, as the saying goes. Even though there are no new heat records in sight yet.

– It continues to be unstable on Saturday in the western parts of Sweden, but on Sunday and at the beginning of next week it seems that the high pressure will strengthen again and we will get a stabilization of the weather so it will continue to be warm.

Even further north you will be able to enjoy summer temperatures.

– It's not 25 degrees in the north, but we still have 20 degrees and 22 somewhere, says Lars Knutsson.
