As a traveler, you risk a double whammy before your summer trip.
Both flight taxes and currency conversion fees may be added to the travel ticket.
”"Right now there have been some questions about the currency change. It has caused people to react with 'I've already paid for my trip, what's the extra charge now,'" says Christine Holst, counselor and lawyer at the Swedish Consumer Agency's information service Hallå konsument.
As a result of the weakened krona, which has fallen by just over 5 percent since the turn of the year and around 10 percent since last fall, there are some tour operators who add a surcharge to the already paid travel price.
In addition, the new flight tax was introduced on April 1st of this year. Here too, airlines sometimes add the tax retrospectively to tickets that have already been booked and paid for.
”"Tour operators have the right to add the new flight tax and also costs they incur as a result of exchange rate changes. However, the companies must have flagged these additions at least 20 days before the agreed departure date," says Christine Holst.
According to Holst, it is important in this context that travel companies are very clear about this in the terms of the contract.
But Hallå konsument also sends a call to consumers.
”"For many people, booking trips is a bit rushed. It's easy to forget to read the terms and conditions, but it's very important to do so," says Christine Holst.
