Thousands of residents have been evacuated along the US Gulf Coast in anticipation of Storm Alberto.

The storm is moving north towards the coast with heavy rain and winds that are feared to cause life-threatening flooding.

The states of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi have declared a state of emergency over the weekend after a forecast of large amounts of water and strong winds.

Alberto is expected to reach the Gulf Coast on Monday, when the country celebrates Memorial Day.
