The aim of the project is to increase the sustainability and quality of the trails in order to be able to accommodate more visitors while at the same time reducing the burden on nature. The project will strengthen the competitiveness of entrepreneurs and the area and allow more people to enjoy the mountain environment in Funäsfjällen in the future.

We know that maintenance, operation and development of trail systems are areas that many destinations have major problems with. Now we have the chance to work further on developing revenue and operation systems that can create more sustainable products in the future," says Petter Eurenius, Project Manager.

The project includes six different trail systems; snowmobile, cross-country, hiking, cycling, horseback riding and paddle trails. The work will focus on the sustainability of the trails where trails are reinforced or moved from sensitive habitats. Bridges will be built and an organization for maintenance and operation for all trail systems will be created. The quality part consists of a more homogeneous and safer trail system with common signage and digital information. Part of the project will also work on developing products and services around the trail system.

The project has involved around 40 people who have worked on the feasibility study and project application for over a year on a non-profit and other basis. ”We have worked with a 60-year sustainability perspective in developing the project. Our children and grandchildren should be able to live and enjoy nature in the same way we do today.” – Marie Klockervold, entrepreneur in Funäsfjällen and non-profit involved in the project.

Jonas Kojan, outgoing CEO of Destination Funäsfjällen, has initiated the feasibility study on which the project is based.
