The online rental and booking service Airbnb has until the end of August to change its terms of use, otherwise it faces legal action within the EU.

The European Commission announced on Monday that Airbnb must comply with EU consumer law by ensuring that prices are displayed including all fees on the website and that the service will increase consumer power by suing hosts who do not comply with the rules.

”Consumers must easily understand what and how much they are expected to pay for the services and have fair rules – for example regarding termination of the rental by the owner,” said EU Consumer Commissioner Vera Jourova.

Airbnb states in a statement that it takes the issue seriously and strives to be as transparent as possible towards its users.
