Venezuela is introducing new coins and banknotes, with five zeros removed. Hyperinflation has made it almost impossible to trade with the old banknotes.
To buy a cup of coffee with cash, you needed a large stack of banknotes. The coffee cost 2.5 million bolivars before the new banknotes were introduced yesterday. Now the price is 25 bolivars.
The new banknotes are part of a package of measures presented by President Nicolás Maduro to try to catch up with inflation, which the IMF expects to reach one million percent this year.
