“Ever since I was a child, I have loved the moon,” Maezawa said at Space X’s headquarters and rocket factory in California, where his name was announced.
– This is my life dream.

Maezawa is the head of Japan's largest online fashion retailer and is the country's 18th richest person. According to business magazine Forbes, he is worth around $3 billion.
He collects modern art and last year bought a work by Jean-Michel Basquiat for $110.5 million. His love of art gave him the idea to invite artists to join him on the journey, which is planned for 2023.
– I want to invite six to eight artists from around the world to join me on this journey to the moon, he says.
– They will be asked to create something when they return to Earth. Those masterpieces will inspire the dreamers in all of us.

SpaceX last week described the trip as ”an important step towards enabling accessibility for ordinary people who dream of traveling to the moon.”.

It is unknown how much the ticket for the trip on the BFR rocket cost. The rocket is designed for heavier transports into space.
Space X CEO Elon Musk describes Maezawa as the "bravest" and "best adventurer.".
“He stepped forward. We are honored that he chose us,” Musk says.
Musk points out that it is a dangerous journey.
– When you move the boundaries, it's not safe. There's a risk that something could go wrong.
