Residents and tourists on Madeira and the smaller neighboring island of Porto Santo are warned of Hurricane Leslie, which is approaching from the west.

There is a high risk of dangerous winds on the islands on Saturday, when Leslie is expected to arrive, both the Portuguese weather agency Ipma and the US hurricane center NHC write.

The storm has taken a slightly more southerly path than previously predicted. This means that the Azores will be spared, but in return the Canary Islands will end up on the fringes of the storm vortex.
