The number of visitors to Finnish Lapland is expected to increase by 15 percent this winter compared to last season.
This comes after several of the northern Finnish airports were expanded during the year for half a billion kronor and a number of new flight routes were opened to destinations in Europe.
In addition, 677 charter flights are booked to visit Santa in various locations in Lapland until Christmas – 89 more flights than last year. But the lack of snow worries tourism entrepreneur Toivo Kvist in Äkäslompolo, near Yläs, which is one of Finland's largest winter sports resorts, among others.
