This is what the country's transport safety authority states in a first preliminary accident report.

The crashed plane experienced a technical problem on an earlier flight between Denpasar and Jakarta. The pilot was able to land the plane as planned. However, the plane should have stayed on the ground, according to accident investigators.

– In our opinion, the plane was no longer airworthy and should not have continued to fly, says Nurcahyo Utomo, flight manager at the authority, in connection with the presentation of a first accident report.

Everyone perished
All 189 people on board died when the plane crashed into the sea, and aviation experts have struggled to explain why one of the world's most modern and advanced passenger aircraft crashed in favorable flying conditions.

Investigators have managed to recover one of the plane's so-called black boxes, where flight data is stored. However, the module for recording the voices in the cockpit has not been found.

So far, investigators have pointed out that the plane had problems with the speed indicator during flight and concerns have been raised that the airline, Lion Air, simply continued to operate the plane despite repeated problems in the days before the crash.

Boeing has been criticized
Boeing has been criticized for only issuing a warning message to pilots after the accident.

There, pilots are instructed on how to handle incorrect information sent by one of the plane's most important sensors. The sensor is crucial in helping the flight system calculate whether the aircraft's nose is pointing correctly relative to the air currents. Without correct information, the nose risks being pointed too high, which can cause the plane to dive.
