When German Chancellor Angela Merkel was due to fly to the G20 summit in Argentina, the plane experienced technical problems. Merkel and her entourage were forced to make an emergency landing in Cologne on Thursday.

According to a statement from Merkel's staff, the landing of the Airbus A340-300 aircraft took place without any problems.

The trip will continue with a replacement flight. The incident means Merkel will miss the opening ceremony in Argentina.
