A 42-year-old British citizen has been sentenced to six months in prison by a court in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia.

The woman was put on trial after she punched a border police officer in the face when she was fined for having her tourist visa expired. The total fine was over 30,000 Swedish kronor.

The incident took place at the island's airport and was filmed on a cellphone. The clip, in which the woman is seen screaming and then hitting the border police officer, quickly spread on social media.

The trial ended on Wednesday. The woman claims that she was not assigned a lawyer and that she was tortured during interrogation - something the prosecutor denies.

Bali is one of Indonesia's top tourist destinations and millions of foreign tourists visit the island every year.
