Deadline to apply for compensation for SAS strike soon ends

Travelers affected by the SAS strike will soon have to seek compensation if they are to receive any money. The deadline for reporting their case expires at the end of June.

”"The important thing is that the complaint must be sent to the airline within two months of the planned flight date. You then have ten years to pursue the matter further. If you don't submit your complaint on time, it's over," says Marie Bexelius, Sweden manager at flight compensation company Airhelp.

A Supreme Court ruling just over a year ago has made it more difficult for Swedes to claim compensation for delayed or cancelled flights. Now, a claim submitted within two months of the end of the trip is considered to have been made in a timely manner. In Denmark, Norway and Finland, the deadline is three years, Airhelp points out.

SAS has itself announced that it will not accept any compensation under the EC 261 regulation, as it considers the strike to be an extraordinary circumstance. This is wrong, according to Airhelp.

”"The important thing now is to act and submit your claim on time. Our assessment is that you as a passenger are entitled to financial compensation for these flights, but if the complaint is not received on time, you will miss the chance to even have it considered," notes Marie Bexelius.
