Royal Caribbean's new ship Celebrity Edge, which has just opened its season in the Mediterranean, is the world's newest cruise ship. But it's also the world's most expensive in its size class, with a modest price tag of SEK 10.4 billion.
The newly built Celebrity Edge, with space for 2,918 passengers, made its European tour in mid-May. Now it opens to its first passengers in the Mediterranean.
Given its size and number of cabins, the ship is the world's most expensive. The cost of the 1,457 cabins is 7.1 million SEK per cabin.

From the upper deck relaxation area with sculptures, plants and secluded corners to the ship's central lounge with piano bar, fish restaurant, French bistro, café, reading corner and a gigantic three-deck high light sculpture, the ship is adorned with fine interior details.
The ship offers a range of experiences, packaged in bright colours and exquisite design. The most special is the Magic Carpet, an external platform on one side of the ship that can be raised from the water surface on deck 2 to deck 16. At the bottom it is used as a gangway, at the top as a lounge and restaurant in the evening. The Magic Carpet was designed by Tom Wright, who also designed the Burj Al Arab.
The Martini Bar in the Grand Plaza, which is the heart of the boat, is adorned with 765 LED lights that create a spectacular backdrop that stretches between several floors.
The food is a chapter in itself. Several specialty restaurants offer everything from French gourmet to sushi, Mediterranean dishes and a fish restaurant with certified fish and shellfish. Here too, you feel that there is plenty of space on board. You sit without being disturbed by the neighboring table and with exquisite service. For those looking for a quick bite to eat, there is a choice between the spa café with small healthy dishes or the grill bar.
1320 strong crew
Celebrity Edge is 300 meters long and 40 meters wide with 16 decks. The crew is 1,320 strong. The ship has invested heavily in technical innovations to reduce emissions and clean exhaust gases. In addition, 75 percent of all waste is recycled, and the water from food production, general consumption, showers and toilets is cleaned with ultraviolet radiation.
The ship, which will sail the Mediterranean throughout the summer, has Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai as its godmother.
