Passenger traffic at the state-owned airport company Swedavia's airports was 4.5 percent lower in the first half of 2019 compared to the same period last year. The SAS strike between April and May affected air traffic at all of Swedavia's airports, Swedavia writes in its interim report.

Swedavia, which operates the airports Arlanda and Landvetter, among other things, predicts continued growing demand for air travel via Swedavia's airports. With some downward adjustment, the forecast lands at an average of 1.6 percent per year until 2050, writes Swedavia's CEO Jonas Abrahamsson.

The company's CEO also communicated the sustainability goal of having zero fossil emissions from its own operations by 2020. This goal applies to all ten of Swedavia's airports.

The company presented an increase in both sales and operating profit for the half-year, compared to the previous period. The increase in sales to SEK 3,072 million (2,913) is stated to be attributable to increased airport charges as a result of ”capacity-increasing investments”. Regarding the increase in operating profit, the company points to the transition to IFRS 16, which contributed positively with SEK 11 million during the period.

Swedavia is currently undergoing ongoing restructuring efforts with the aim of making operations more cost-effective, a process that has negatively affected the period's operating profit, Jonas Abrahamsson writes in the report.
