In the shadow of ongoing pro-democracy demonstrations in Hong Kong, Singapore's hotel industry is flourishing, with occupancy rates climbing to their highest level in over a decade, according to data from the Singapore Tourism Board.

The overall hotel room occupancy in Singapore reached 93.8 percent in July, the highest level since 2005. This figure can be compared to 92.5 percent from the same month in 2018. Prices have also climbed to their highest figure in four years, since the Hong Kong protests escalated in mid-June.

In recent weeks, Hong Kong's airport has been one of the scenes of the protests, resulting in significant disruption to Hong Kong's tourism industry. Several hotel operators have warned of lower occupancy rates and large volumes of cancellations as a result of the chaos in the city.
