It will soon be possible to use Swish to pay with your mobile phone abroad.

Seven players in Europe are joining forces to form the European Mobile Payment Systems Association (Empsa), which will initially make it possible for Swedes to use Swish for payments in Belgium, Germany, Austria, Finland, Denmark, Portugal, Switzerland and Norway.

The desire to make Swish payments outside Sweden has long been a high priority among our seven million users. With Empsa, we are now taking an important step towards making this possible, while strengthening European cooperation between mobile wallets,” says Anna-Lena Wretman, vice president at Empsa and CEO of Swish, according to a press release.

More countries are expected to join the organization in the coming months.
